A MURDER charge against a man who stabbed a burglar while protecting his house is likely to be dropped, the Post understands.

Omari Roberts, 23, had been due to go on trial on April 19, accused of murdering Tyler Juett, a teenager who was allegedly trying to break into his house.But prosecutors are expected to call off the case at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday. Jonathan Epelle, a partner at London-based solicitors Central Law Practice, which has been representing Roberts, said the dropping of the case would be a legal “landmark”.He said: “It isn’t a certainty, but we understand the prosecution are going to offer no evidence in respect of this matter, which means that they are dropping the case

Tyler, 17, was found by paramedics in Basford at about 2pm on March 13, last year. 

He died of a stab wound shortly after arriving at the Queen’s Medical Centre. 

Roberts, of Heathfield Road, Old Basford, was later charged with his murder, something which Mr Epelle said should not have happened.”It was outrageous that seven months on from the incident, Omari was charged with murder,” he said. After Roberts was charged, his mum Jacqui McKenzie-Johnson launched a campaign to change the laws on people protecting their homes. A CPS spokesman said the service was not in a position to comment at this stage.
